“I sincerely appreciate all of the support from friends, Denver Broncos fans and so many around the league today,” Fox said in a statement released by the team Saturday night. “Although I am disappointed I must take some time away from the team to attend to this pre-existing health condition, I understand that it’s the right thing to do. I have great confidence in our coaches and players, who are fully committed to our goals.
“I look forward to returning to coaching as soon as possible.”
The Broncos current record of 7-1 are making them potential candidates to play in the 2014 Super Bowl. The next outing for the team will be on Sunday, November 10, when they play rival San Diego. The team’s management has not yet announced their choice for interim coach while the 58-year old Fox is recuperating from heart surgery. But many insiders are pointing to Jack Del Rio as a smart choice because he had extensive experience with the Jacksonville Jaguars prior to joining Fox’s staff as defensive coordinator.
