Jason Sudeikis Related to Cheers’ Star Wendt

Those who enjoy playing the celebrity connection game known as “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” were paying attention when “Saturday Night Live” star Jason Sudeikis recently admitted who his famous uncle is while guesting on the Ellen DeGeneres talk show. Sudeikis revealed that his uncle, actor George Wendt of “Cheers” series fame, had helped him arrange a meeting with DeGeneres when he was just a teenager because he had a crush on the comedian and also wanted her to autograph her book for him. Wendt is well known to television audiences as the barfly “Norm” on the long-running hit series “Cheers” which ran for 11 years.

Sudeikis said that although his uncle didn’t encourage him to enter the entertainment business, he said he was inspired by his example, showing the younger Sudeikis that a regular guy from Middle America could pursue his dream of becoming an actor and strike it rich.

Sudeikis, who recently became engaged to actress Olivia Wilde of the “House,MD” dramatic series, jokes that the only advice that Wendt gave him about pursuing an acting career was to get hired to work on a hit series and then stick with that show for as long as possible.
