Heroic Dog Saves Woman From Fire

A heroic pet dog saved his owner’s life by alerting her to a quickly spreading house fire. The dog, a 13 year old Labrador and Golden Retriever mix named Jake barked, jumped and whined until he awakened the napping woman.

The Salt Lake City woman was on the second-floor of her home when Jake woke her up and she jumped from the window to safety on her lawn. She was unable to lift the dog herself because he weighs over 120 pounds. She had called for the dog to also jump but he did not and Jake perished in the fire. The woman’s husband was also able to escape the fire.

The towns fire marshal said that the woman was lucky to get out when she did and likely wouldn’t have been able to live much longer in the smoke filled home. The home was completely destroyed and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Heroic dog stories abound!

A report by the The Agence France-Presse reveals that a German shepherd owned by an unidentified 63-year-old woman in Sorgues, a town in southeastern France, stopped his owner’s suicide attempt this week.

According to UPI, the woman had entered her garden with the dog, fired several test shots from a .22 caliber rifle and then turned the gun on herself. As she fired, the dog jumped up and pushed the gun away, reports IBTimes.

As a result, the bullet missed her heart and caused a non-life-threatening laceration.

The actions of a dog in Poland are being credited with saving the life of a 3-year old girl who had wandered away from home and had to spend the night outdoors in sub-freezing temperatures.

The girl, identified only by her first name of Julia, had been seen earlier in the day playing in the backyard of her home with a black stray dog. When she disappeared, hundreds of volunteers searched the mountaineous area in and around her home in Pierzwin.

They also deployed a police helicopter with infrared cameras and six search dogs to look for the girl.

Luckily, Julia was discovered the next morning with the dog curled up beside her in marshland not very far from her home.
