Is the reward for information leading to the whereabouts of murder suspect Chris Dornan less valid because he died resisting arrest?

On Sunday, a $1 million reward was offered by LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa for information leading to the capture of triple murder suspect Christopher Dorner.

Two tipsters seemed to have the strongest claim to a reward. Jim and Karen Reynolds were bound and tied by Dorner after he broke into their condo on Tuesday then stole their car and fled the scene. Karen was able to free herself enough to call 911.

According to the LA Times, the call set in motion the chain of events that led to a shootout with Dorner resulting in his death. Asked by reporters if she expected to receive at least a share of the $1 million reward, Karen replied: “We heard nobody was getting that because he needed to be captured and convicted.”

Lawyers are attempting to determine whether the city, and the private donors that contributed to the reward fund, are obligated to compensate the tipsters. There was no word as to the whether damage control personnel were also involved.
