Earl Sampson arrested 62 Times for Trespassing His Place of Employment
Miami Gardens, FL – This suburb of Metro-Miami has a population of just over 109,000 residents and is 78% black. In addition, one of five residents live below the poverty line. Crime is an issue in the city and in an effort to reduce violent crime, the city implemented what is known as the “broken windows” theory.
The broke windows theory states that major crimes can be prevented and deterred by vigorously enforcing minor crimes like trespassing or breaking windows. One thing is certain and that is the theory isn’t making a lot of sense to Earl Sampson. He is a resident of the city and works at the 207 Quikstop convenience store. Thus far, the young man has been detained 256 times by police and arrested 62 times for trespassing at his place of employment.
Thankfully, he has a caring employer by the name of Alex Saleh who became exasperated by the constant arrest of his employee for trespassing. He installed security cameras to record the arrests.
“There is just no justifying this kind of behavior,’’ said Chuck Drago, a former police officer and consultant on police policy and the use of force. “Nobody can justify overstepping the constitution to fight crime.”
The city’s efforts are done under a zero tolerance policy, but no one has yet to confirm why a human going to work falls under a “zero tolerance” policy or is guilty of trespassing.
