Emma Watson GQ cover Sizzles
Emma Watson continues her post-Harry Potter transformation from Hermione to versatile actress. She was recently featured on the cover of GQ magazine in character from her current film “Bling Ring” due out in theaters June 4, 2013. Watson’s transformation is not occurring by chance. She explained to GQ magazine she is conscientiously selecting movie roles that prevent her from being “pigeonholed” or type cast.
For the cover of GQ, Watson is seen wearing a cut-out dress which makes the 22-year-old actress appear similar to Julia Roberts from the film “Pretty Woman”. Watson explained that when she first read the screenplay for the film, she was repulsed by the character “Nikki”.
Watson said the character was “amoral”, materialistic, superficial, and vain – character flaws she believes she does not possess. In fact, Watson said she hated “Nikki” and found it a challenge to play the role of someone she detested.
In the interview, Emma told GQ that she relished the opportunity to play an ‘amoral’ character such as Nikki.
She said: ‘When I read the script and I realised that essentially it was a meditation on fame and what it’s become to our society, I had to do it.
‘The character is everything that I felt strongly against — she’s superficial, materialistic, vain, amoral. She’s all of these things and I realised that I hated her. How do you play someone you hate?
‘But I found it really interesting and it gave me a whole new insight into what my job or my role as an actress could be.’
The film “Bling Ring” is based on actual events from a group of burglars who struck the homes of the rich and famous in 2009 and were dubbed by the media “The Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch”. Oscar winning playwright Sofia Coppola wrote the screenplay for and directed the film.
