Food Network’s Sunny Anderson Once Worked as Sonic Carhop

Fans of 38-year-old chef Sunny Anderson of the Food Network might be surprised to know she’s can quite literally “slow her roll” – on roller skates that is. The native from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, worked at the popular fast-food venue decades ago when she was paying her dues.

Sonic is known for its retro-50s diner approach where attendants skate food trays to customers who place their orders in booths via speakerphone. In fact, Anderson is down to earth and hasn’t forgotten her humble roots. In addition to her popular “Cooking for Real” show which has been airing for five years now, she was a guest judge for the competition “So You Think You Can Skate” which is sponsored by Sonic.

That competition has carhops compete in a real life Sonic setting where they take food trays to customers and display their talent on wheels. Top performers earn college money.

Now, Anderson isn’t saying she was good enough to have competed in such a match, but you don’t get to be a carhop by being shaky on skates either. Anderson’s show “Cooking For Real” runs in 30 minute clips and has aired 88 episodes in its run. She now lives in Brooklyn, New York.
