Former Football star charged with sexual assault in Arizona
Former NFL Played Indicted for Sexual Assault
Former NFL player Darren Sharper has been formally charged in a sexual assault case in Arizona. The indictment includes two counts of sexual assault and three counts of administering dangerous drugs. Sharper is currently being held in custody without bail pending an upcoming hearing.
Tempe police Sergeant Michael Pooley says that the charges stem from an incident on November 21 of last year in which Sharper allegedly drugged two women and raped them when they passed out. The incident is said to have occurred in an apartment in Tempe where Sharper mixed and served drinks to these two women.
Sharper is also under investigation for alleged sexual assault in California, Nevada, Florida and Nevada, though he has only been indicted in California and now, Arizona. In February, Sharper pleaded not guilty to the charges of rape, furnishing a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance in California. Louisiana police have requested he be extradited, but the request was denied by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge because he has not yet been formally charged in Louisiana.
Darren Sharper played in the National Football League for 14 years and was a defensive back for New Orleans Saints when they won the Super Bowl in 2010. He also played for the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings. He is a five-time Pro-Bowl player and among the top all-time leaders for pass interceptions. Sharper previously worked as a consultant for the NFL. He was let go when he was charged in California.
