Is there nothing that Disney can’t accomplish. In a rare box office feat, the animated Disney hit “Frozen” returned to the number one spot at the box office this past week almost exactly one month after it last held the coveted top money making spot. The popular family movie easily beat out the top new film of the week “Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones.”

This milestone is just a small indication of the success of the newest film in the Disney franchise. With this weeks receipts the film is just under three million dollars shy of hitting the coveted 300 million dollar earnings mark for North America. Only three other films were able to hit that milestone this year.

In 2013 north american moviegoers shelled out big bucks at the theatres. Nearly 11 billion dollars were spent on movie tickets this year. This mark was nearly an all-time high. The only films to out earn frozen this year were “Iron Man 3”, “Despicable Me 2”, and “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”.

The success of “Frozen” was the cherry on the sundae for animated films in 2013. Along with the aforementioned “Despicable Me 2”, other animated hits such as “Monster’s University” and “The Croods” also were among North America’s highest grossing films of the year.
