X-Files Star’s Daughter decides against Acting Career

Former X-Files star Gillian Anderson has revealed her relief at the decision of her daughter to turn her back on a planned acting career.

In an interview with Stylist Magazine Anderson explained her 18 year old daughter Piper Maru had just completed her first amateur play and was unhappy with the experience she completed; in fact Piper Maru has been so upset with her first acting experience she has told her mother she never wants to repeat it. Unlike many parents Anderson says she is relieved that her daughter will now pursue other career opportunities outside acting.

“She just did her first play and hated it. I’m relieved; it’s not an easy road to choose,” she told Stylist magazine.

In the same interview the star of TV show Hannibal explains her own father tried his best to change her mind about becoming an actress because of the slim chance of success. Anderson tells of her father’s wish for her to learn some skills outside acting to fall back on if she failed to find work as an actress; the star claims her father attempted to talk her out of an acting career by explaining only around five percent of actors are working at any one time. Anderson claims she could not learn the computer skills her father wished her to because her brain does not work in the right way for that.

“I remember my dad sitting me down when he heard it’s what I’d decided to do. He was very concerned and told me only five percent of actors are working at any given time, and I should learn word processing because computers were going to change things a lot and I would have a skill to fall back on. Which is brilliant, but what he didn’t know was that my brain just doesn’t work that way,” explained Anderson.
