Guilt Free Lapdance: Strip Club Offers Free Lap Dances

The Burke and Hare, a strip club in West Port, Edinburgh held a charity day on Sunday, November 24 to raise money for an injured friend, who did not want to be named.
The club promoted “guilt-free” lap dances as part of Charity Day, where patrons can experience them for half the price from 2 to 7 PM on the Sunday afternoon. Proceeds will be donated to help the seriously injured anonymous friend. Burke and Hare’s Facebook page also plugged the event with a flyer that claimed free entry, drink promotions and a prize draw.
Located in the “Public Triangle” (because of the three strip clubs known to dot the area), the club is meeting some resistance from groups opposed to the event. The secretary of Tollcross Community Council dismissed the charity as “trying to popularise pole dancing,” according to the Edinburgh News, which also notes community pressure against adult venues under a proposed law that would giving councils the power to ban them. Edinburgh Hollaback, a movement that fights street harassment, also had a dim view of the event.
The club’s spokeswoman said they “thought it was a great way to raise money” by doing something “a bit different.”
