Wolverine Star Hugh Jackman has Skin Cancer

Hugh Jackman recently informed his 231,000 Instagram fans that he has been diagnosed with skin cancer. He learned of it only recently when he relented to his wife who insisted he have the mark on his nose inspected by a doctor. The mark was nothing short of Basil-cell carcinoma (BCC) which is the most common form of cancer. Thankfully, BCC does not usually metastasize. However, BCC can cause disfigurement to the surrounding tissue and for that reason is considered malignant.

Jackman posted a picture of him sporting an adhesive bandage on his nose along with the admonishment to wear sun screen and get a regular checkup. BCC occurs on the head and neck in eight out of ten cases. In all likelihood, Jackman will be recover completely. He expressed his gratitude to his wife for insisting he seek medical attention and expressed the humility he got from feeling a sense of his own mortality.

The 45-year-old Australian has enjoyed a successful acting career as the invincible super-hero Wolverine who can recover instantly from wounds. The latest installment in the Wolverine franchise took in $414 million on a budget of $120 million. The X-men films have fared even better than that.
