Two drunks cut off own ears for bet

Moscow, Russia – two miners are literally getting an earful from concerned family following a bet made during a drinking binge in which the men each cut off an ear. The incident occurred when the men, flush with bravado and full of hard liquor, made a most peculiar arm wrestling wager: loser cuts off own ear.

The match was on and upon losing, the soon-to-be one-eared miner insisted on a rematch. He won. The men then agreed that each should lose an ear – fair is fair. It would also have been fair to just call it a draw and walk away, but that’s soberness talking. One man was able to cut off his ear entirely and the other only managed to nick off half. Following their making good on their bets, they were hospitalized.

“The men voluntarily cut off their left ears. One completely, and the other half off. They were hospitalised with these injuries,” police said.

It’s not clear if their ears were successfully reattached and if they suffered no damage to their hearing. Oddly enough, the men were supposed to be celebrating the Russian Orthodox Christmas which occurs on January 7. They are not entirely out of the woods yet as police are trying to determine if they violated any statutes when they physically maimed themselves.
