Jim Carey pulls his support for Kick-Ass
Jim Carrey is best known for his frenzied and fanatical style of on-screen antics which turned him into an overnight sensation in the nineties with movies such as The Mask and The Cable Guy. As his popularity surmounted, so did his desire to branch out into more complex and darkened roles. He championed dramatic characters winning numerous awards for The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Recently, Carrey tweeted, “I did Kick-Ass a month [before] Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence.” Carrey sent a follow-up tweet afterwards citing, “I meant to say my apologies to others [involved] with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.”
Kick-Ass 2 is expected to showcase a heightened level of brutality much like was displayed by in the original Kick Ass. Being a gun control advocate, it is uncertain why Carrey agreed to participate in the movie a year and a half ago. He slammed Fox News on behalf of gun control politics after the network attempted to defame him for a Funny or Die Video as reported by Rolling Stone in late March. It seems like Jim Carrey has turned over a new leaf and it’s probably a safe bet that he will not be starring in any Quentin Tarantino films anytime soon.
