KKK Recruiting in Springfield, leaving Fliers On Local Door Steps
Any organization knows that its long-term success is dependent on the fresh blood that converts bring to it. Whether that organization is a religion, a union, or the ignominious hate group the Klu Klux Klan (KKK), recruits are their life blood. The KKK hasn’t recovered from its peak of roughly six million members in the early 1920s.
Today they number at most 8,000 members. That doesn’t mean they’re giving up on finding recruits. Apparently, they believe that in this city of 116,000 residents they’ll find fresh blood.
One Springfield resident told the local news channel KYTV that he found their recruitment flier on his front step.
On Sunday morning Steven Burchett went to get his paper and made a surprising discovery.
“I found the note in the front yard. And it was from the Klan,” he stated. “I was furious. I was furious.”
The flier contained a website and the toll-free number or Klan line to their organization. It appears to be a legitimate flier from the organization.
A spokesman for the KKK confirmed that the fliers are part of a greater nationwide recruitment campaign.
The KKK is looking to co-opt the neighborhood watch movement which involves concerned citizens looking out for one another.
“That just tells you what a coward they are. A simple knock at the door, I can say I am not interested, thank you very much and go on. But instead they have to come through in the middle of the night and drop a rock in the front yard. Nah- that is a coward,” Burchett said.
Local neighborhood watches have already suffered a black-eye with the George Zimmerman-Trayvon Martin incident, and now the KKK is looking to further anoint any such organization with an aura of racism and exclusivity.
