Lolo Jones Makes World Cup Bobsled Team
Jones made the World Cup team on Friday in Park City, Utah. She is what is known as push athlete on a bobsled team and is one of the members responsible for generating speed at the beginning of the run. Jazmine Fenlator, the bobsled driver, made the team along with Jones. The two finished third on Friday. They also finished in third in a selection race on October 12 at Lake Placid, New York.
Also named for the World Cup team are drivers Elana Meyers and Jamie Greubel and pushers Emily Azevedo, Katie Eberling, Aja Evans, Kristi Koplin and Lauryn Williams. Meyes and Williams are both Olympians and Eberling is a two-time national champion. Darrin Steele, the U.S. Bobsled & Skeleton Federation CEO, has expressed that the team looks very strong.
In the 2012 London Olympics, Jones gained attention finishing fourth in the 100-meter hurdles. She is now setting her sights on the upcoming Winter Olympics. The Olympic team will be selected based on the athletes’ performances in the World Cup.
