When a man walked into a Deltona, Florida water office Monday morning and handed a cashier an envelope, nothing suspicious was originally detected.
Being the office of water, cashiers were used to being handed envelopes from clients simply trying to pay their water bills. However, when they opened the envelope and it contained a suspicious white powder, employees were on full alert contacting the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and evacuating the building, afraid of the possibility of the substance being anthrax.
According to Sheriff’s Office spokesman, Brandon Haught, the white powder turned out to be crack cocaine, not anthrax. It is unclear if the man was attempting to settle his water bill with the crack cocaine or if the envelope was meant for something else entirely, but the Deltona water office hopes that one thing is clear, you can’t pay your water bill with crack cocaine (or any other type of illegal drug, for that matter).
Authorities for the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate this matter. They are hoping that the surveillance cameras that captured the man leaving the Deltona water office on a bicycle, also caught a picture of the man’s face.
