Man catches 18 pound lobster, wrestled it to shore

Joseph Ali is no longer wondering what delicacy will be the highlight of his Christmas dinner this year. The 27-year old California man was diving off the coast of Huntington Beach recently near the area’s famous pier when he spied a gigantic lobster. Ali managed to reach out grab the crustacean with just one hand, but the lobster was too big and lunged forward, striking Ali in the face and chest.
Not easily deterred, Ali reports that he struggled with the massive creature for several minutes until he was finally able to wrangle the lobster into the bag he was carrying.
He says he plans on cooking the 18-pound lobster but there is no word if he already owns a pot that is big enough to hold the sea creature long enough to steam it.
There is no estimate as to how old this 18-pound lobster may be as lobsters tend to get bigger the longer they live. Although 18 pounds is not a record for a California lobster, it certainly is a respectable size catch. There are records of fishermen catching California spiny lobsters weighing in at 26 pounds. These are often saved from the cooking pot and donated to aquariums.
