Eric Cantona Portrays Stallion in Erotic Comedy

Fans who knew former United Manchester and France football star Eric Cantona on the field may be surprised to hear what he is up to now in his acting career. The 47-year old Cantona, who retired from the gridiron in 1997, is set to play a character called The Stallion in an erotic comedy called The Meetings After Midnight (Les Rencontres d’apres’minuit) slated to be released in November. In the film, Cantona’s character accepts an invitation from a young couple to join in an orgy with their maid who is a transvestite.

Cantona recently served as president of the Dinard British Film Festival Jury, now in its 24th year. He is among those helping to determine which of 6 British films will be awarded the coveted Golden Hitchcock Award for 2013. Filmgoers who enjoyed Cantona’s performances in the 1998 release, “Elizabeth”, co-starring Cate Blanchett, and “Looking for Eric” the following year, may be surprised by his most recent role. Cantona calls the upcoming movie “unique and elegant” and says that audiences will enjoy the voyeuristic qualities it presents without seeming foolish. This will be the first time that the former athlete turned actor appears in an overtly erotic role.
