melissa joan hart becomes spokesperson for Nutrisystem
Former teen actress Melissa Joan Hart who starred in the long running sitcom “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch” from 1996 to 2003 has now landed a deal as the face of Nutrisystems. Hart got married the same year “Sabrina” ended its run and recently had her third child.
“We are thrilled to be helping and working with Melissa. She mirrors our values and will resonate with our customers as authentic,” a rep for Nutrisystem said in a statement, adding that their customers will appreciate someone like Hart, “who –above all else — is relatable.”
Hart was able to lose 20 lbs. gained from her third child using the processed meals Nutrisystems sells with a low glycemic index. Hart explains that she feels pressure to lose weight from herself. She understands that in her line of business, the thinner she becomes has a direct correlation to the amount of acting work she is offered.
“I feel the pressure from myself, not from anyone else,“ she told Ok! magazine back in Novemeber. “I do know that the quicker I lose the weight, the more work will come. It’s two-fold. There is that pressure, but I’m using it as good. I’m using that as motivation to keep my diet in check, and make sure I get on that spin bike one extra day.”
Hart says that she uses that reality to motivate herself to get in an extra workout session weekly. She said that the benefits of weight loss is two-fold: better health and more acting jobs.
Her dieting habits have generated more attention for her than her starring role on the ABC sitcom she has starred in since 2010 called “Melissa & Joey”. She claims that, after having her second child, she was able to lose over 40 lbs.
This isn’t the first time the actress made headlines for her weigh loss effors.
In 2009, Hart’s weight loss success landed her on the cover of People magazine where she was featured in a bikini (photo).
Hart is best known for her role in the hit teenage sitcoms “Sabrina” and “Clarissa Explains It All.” She also starred in several hit teen movies including “You Drive Me Crazy” with Adrian Grenier and “Can’t Hardly Wait,” as well as the ABC Family original movies “Holiday in Handcuffs” and “My Fake Fiance.” She is married to musician Mark Wilkerson, who is the frontman for the band Course of Nature.
