Couple Arrested For Posession of Meth Found to Have Also Abandoned Kids in Woods
Three children are in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families after allegedly being abandoned in the woods by their parents.
Police were initially alerted about the two parents, Michael and Sarah Butcher after residents of private RV Park in Punta Gorda complained about a strange red truck parked next to a neighbor’s trailer.
According to witnesses the couple had parked their vehicle, got out and proceeded to have a very loud and vocal argument.
A quick search of the truck by Deputies from the Charlotte County Sherriff’s Department revealed a used syringe and burnt spoon; a baggie of meth amphetamines were also found on the father.

Soon after booking the couple for illegally parking their vehicle and possession of a controlled substance, the Sherriff’s office received a phone call reporting three children who were found in a nearby wooded area. The three reported to officers that their family often camped in this area and had been playing in the woods when they saw their parent’s truck speed off.
Michael is a 30-year-old former Alabama cop who resigned from his position in 2012 after an arrest on charges of “unlawful possession of a controlled substance”, reports the News.Com.Au.
“The information was handled in the same manner as we handle this kind of information about anyone else,” Jasper Police Chief Connie Rowe said.
“We conducted an investigation and Mr. Butcher, who had been on leave due to a medical issue, tendered his letter of resignation before our investigators could get the warrant for his arrest in hand.”
It is still not known if the couple has confessed or charged in the matter as a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office has decline to release a comment.

“That’s terrible that these young children have to put up with a couple of parents that are that neglectful of them,” one neighbor told WZVN.
