mystery man tips for jesus
It may be the latest trend or the work of a single charitable person, but what is known is that a mystery tipper who stamps the handle “@tipsforjesus” on his restaurant receipts has tips that would have made even the late Frank Sinatra, a well-known big tipper, blush.
For instance, on one receipt the mysterious donor paid a $10,000 tip on top of a $265.96 restaurant bill at the Hungry Cat restaurant in Hollywood, California. While no one is disputing the food there is probably good, it’s doubtful that the chow is that good. In cities across North America happy waiters and waitresses have reported receiving tips in the range of $1,000 to $10,000. Thus far, the mystery tipper has left happy employees in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, Phoenix and Ann Arbor.
What’s known thus far is the mystery tipper uses an American Express card, which given size of the tips likely has a high credit limit. On a recent weekend in New York City, “@tipsforjesus” gave a waiter at Bo’s Kitchen & Bar Room a $1,000 tip, a server at The Smith restaurant a $3,500 tip, and a waiter at the NoMad Hotel’s restaurant a $7,000 tip.
