Nissan’s Micra At Just Under $10,000 Will Be Canada’s Cheapest Car
Toronto, Canada – A new model car unveiled at the 2014 Toronto Auto Show is priced under $10,000 and it’s not a reincarnation of the ill-fated 1980s Yugo. The attractive small car is set to become available to consumers with a base model price of $9,998 in a matter of weeks.
The car is called the Micra (it’s called March everywhere else except the US, where it isn’t sold at all)and despite its small size it can fit four people. The vehicle ha a 4-cylinder 1.6 liter engine that can travel a distance of 600 – 700 kilometers (~ 374 – 430 miles) on a single tank of gas. There is car has some trunk space which is said to be a “useful” amount. One of the best features of the car is that it is truly fuel efficient. It achieves this without any hybrid technology or taxpayer funded subsidies as in the case of the Nissan Leaf which costs 3x the Micra after subsidies. Also, the Micra is able to travel a distance 6x what the Leaf can achieve before requiring a lengthy recharge.
Nissan is the maker of the new car and when asked about the financial profitability of it, responded by saying they would not have made the vehicle if they didn’t have an expectation of making money off of it.
