Nun Gives Birth, Didn’t Know She Was Pregnant

Nun was Mum About Being Pregnant

It seems that the only indication that a nun was pregnant was a stomach pain of labor. The Italian nun, who is originally from El Salvador, was rushed to the hospital after feeling a pain in her stomach. She gave birth on Wednesday.

The nun stated “I did not know I was pregnant. I only felt a stomach pain”, reported by Italian news agency ASNA. She later gave birth to a 7.7 pound son named Francesco. The name is currently very popular in Italy due to the national patron saint, St. Francis of Assisi.

The 31-year-old nun and newborn son are both doing well. Neither the hospital in Rieti where the nun gave birth to her son nor the hospital staff provided comment concerning the circumstance.

Expected to keep the baby, other people are collecting donations and clothing for the new mother.
The nun is a member of the “Little Disciples of Jesus”, a convent in Campomoro near Rieti. The convent is responsible for managing an old people’s home. Her sister nuns at the convent were quoted as being quite “surprised” by the pregnancy and birth.
Simone Petrangeli, the mayor of Rieti, has requested privacy and respect for the nun.
