Ohio Man Dead for 45 Minutes Comes Back to Life

Tony Yahle, a 37-year old diesel mechanic, has achieved a feat that might just put him in the record books.

After being declared dead by his doctors after his heart stopped beating for 45 minutes, Yahle suddenly came back to life and the medical community is at a loss to explain how a dead man is now walking and talking again.

‘We’d given him all the medicine we had in our code cart,’ the doctor told ABCNews.com. ‘At some point, you have to call it off.’

Then Mr Yahle’s 17-year-old son, Lawrence, ran down the hallway to his father’s body and shouted: ‘Dad, you’re not going to die today!’

The West Carrolton, Ohio resident claims that it was his faith which helped him live again after being declared dead. His cardiologist says he is simply stunned, never having experienced such an incident himself nor even having heard of another patient who revived after his heart stopped beating for almost one hour.

The man’s doctors say it is possible that the entire episode was the result of a viral infection which temporarily stopped his heart but didn’t affect his other vital organs.

His cardiologist Dr Raja Nazir added to WCPO: ‘In the last twenty years, I’ve never seen anybody we have pronounced dead and – then for him to come back – I’ve never seen it. Actually, I’ve never heard of it.’

When Yahle’s 18-year old son, Lawrence, came to see his father after he was pronounced dead, the youngster told his father this wasn’t his day to die and soon noticed that Yahle began to stir. Yahle and his family say the entire episode was nothing short of a miracle and that the family’s strong beliefs helped change the situation from being hopeless to hopeful.

This isn’t the first time in recent months that a patient has ‘come back to life’ after heart failure.

Ohio resident Ernie Johnson was on a fishing trip with his brothers when his heart stopped. 45 minutes later doctors were able to revive him.

“I didn’t have a heartbeat for 30 to 45 minutes. I was literally dead,” Ernie said.

Johnson was in the hospital for a month, went through rehabilitation, and is making a full recovery.
