Oops: College World Series Misspelling (PHOTO)
Officials at the College World Series being held in Omaha, NB were embarrassed to discover that the CWS banners on display at the televised event misspelled the word “College”.
Spectators at the opening game that pitted Oregon State against Mississippi State, soon noticed that a blue and white tarp positioned near third base, contained the words Colllege World Series in between two CWS logos, with an extra “L” evident in the word college.
There was no explanation forthcoming from NCAA officials as to who was responsible for the glaring spelling error, which was not discovered until the banner was already in place and the games were underway.
A photo of the misspelling soon went viral so everyone could see that CWS officials neglected to proofread the banners before instructing them to be set into place for everyone to see.
This most recent spelling goof rivals the misspelling of the word “Atlanta” as “Alanta” on a banner prominently featured on the sidelines of the 2013 NCAA Men’s Final Four competition.
The misspelling merely helps to promote the notion that although athletes are very talented on the field of play, they tend to neglect mastering such basic skills as spelling and grammar.
