OPP Distracted Driving Blitz Continue Through March Break

OPP Launch Blitz Against Distracted Driving For Start Of March Break
Distracted driving has become one of the biggest dangers on Ontario’s roads so the OPP are planning yet another crackdown during the March Break in order to raise awareness to the dangers of driving while distracted.
There are still many drivers that continue to operate their cell phones, primarily texting, and are not paying the proper attention to driving as they should. There are also still many people that are talking on their cell phone while operating their vehicle.
Distracted driving was pushed into the media’s attention after a dash cam video was released that showed a crash on Highway 17 by Kenora, involving two vehicles. Distracted Driving can be easily prevented by using a little bit of self restraint.
OPP is starting another round of distracted driver campaign in order to try to promote distracted driving awareness, and to fine those drivers that are not paying the proper attention while they are driving.
The next round of enforcement crackdown for distracted drivers started on March 18th. The penalty for being caught distracted while operating a motor vehicle will rise to almost $300. This increase was prompted after the death toll last year on Ontario’s roads and highways reached 78, and these deaths were all attributed to the drivers being distracted.
OPP’s Campaign on Distracted Drivers is in effect from Saturday, March 8, 2014, and concludes on March 14, 2014. Drivers should be sure to pay attention on the highways and roads in order to avoid a hefty penalty.
