Oakland, California – In yet another blemish for the crime ridden city of Oakland, California, thieves have stolen over 100 toys and holiday gifts from the center for the Urban Mentors Network (UMN). The gifts were part of the ministry’s annual Christmas party where impoverished residents arrive for a quality meal and a gift. According to Jaime Taylor, a missionary from the Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education (EAPE), the annual Christmas party is a time when residents can realize that God takes notice of them and cares.
Unfortunately, God’s eyes weren’t the only ones taking notice. Taylor reports that donated merchandise valued at up to $2,000 was stolen and quite literally constitutes stealing from the poor. Prior to the theft, the ministry estimated they had enough gifts for one hundred children. This means the thieves emptied out the entire cache of gift donations.
Taylor and those of the UMN charity are doubling down on efforts to ask the community to donate again for the benefit of the needy. A wish list of gifts has been established on amazon.com which allow for anyone to make a purchase and have it ship directly to the UMN charity.
