Police are said to be individuals who protect and serve society and this motto is a standard upheld by many officers.

But One Iowa police officer took the serving aspect of the motto to new heights. An Iowa City, Iowa police officer was caught off guard when pulling over a speeding vehicle one Sunday evening.

For the first time ever, officer Kevin Wolfe had done something he had never done. He helped a mother deliver her child while at an intersection. After pulling over the vehicle, officer Wolfe approached the car to be met by a father in panic mode.

The father and driver of the car jumped out the vehicle screaming to officer Wolfe “Sir, we’re delivering a baby right here right now.” Officer Wolfe wasn’t expecting the baby to be peeking out the mother’s womb. Officer Wolfe stated, “The baby’s head and arms were out.”

‘I had every expectation that when they said they were having a baby they meant there was a baby on the way and we would drive to the hospital and I would shake their hand and say “good luck.”‘ he said. ‘But the baby’s head and arms were already out.’

‘Congratulations, this my first one on the road so,’ Wolfe can be heard telling the couple.
Later he told KCRG.com: ‘I think everybody was equally surprised. I’d say it’s pretty crazy, this one I’ll be telling for a while.’

The mother and newborn were discharged from the hospital Wednesday, they’re said to be in good health. Attempts to contact them were unsuccessful.
