Father Gets 5-Years in Prison for Starving Daughter
Madison, Wisconsin – A trucker has been sentenced to five years in prison for his role in the basement imprisonment and starvation of his teenage daughter.

The problems arose when the girl was roughly ten years old and may have been sexually molested by her stepfather. She then went to live with her father, but the emotional trauma she was quietly suffering from manifest itself in the form of intense behavioral issues.

She threatened to hill her father, stepmother, and stepson during their sleep.

However, the way her father dealt with it made him become a part of the problem. For five years, she was kept in the basement and feed sparsely by her stepmother as her father was away at work.

She finally managed to escape and get help. After five years of imprisonment, she was a gaunt 68 lbs. as a 15-year-old girl. She claimed that during the time her father was away, her stepmother physically abused her. The starvation became so intense should would eat and drink her own physical refuse. She also alleged that her stepbrother sexually assaulted her.

District Attorney Ismael Ozanne asked Genovese to give the man 10 years behind bars, saying he and his wife kept the girl isolated because they didn’t want her to tell anyone she was being abused.

“The course of conduct would have ended in (the girl’s) death but for her courage to run away,” Ozanne said. Asked after the sentencing if he agreed with five years, he simply said he respected Genovese’s decision.

Julie Genovese, the district court judge in the case, acknowledged the girl had legitimate issues, but explained the father had to accept responsibility for his role in the tragedy. The step mother is already serving a 5-year prison sentence and the stepson awaits trial on sexual molestation charges.
