RCMP: Estranged husband missing after house fire, alleged attack on family

In Langley, BC, the RCMP has been called out to investigate a possible murder attempt and arson in the Willowbrook area. Two young children escaped a house fire with their mother in the early hours. The fire they escaped gutted their home, located in the 19600 block of Wakefield Drive, completely.

According to police statements, the woman’s estranged husband, a 44-year-old Langley man, entered the home without an invitation and set fire to the property. After setting the blaze, the man located his estranged wife in her room and began assaulting her with a weapon.

When the couple’s young daughter came to the aide of her mother, the daughter was also struck with the weapon. The young mother was finally able to escape the burning house with her son and daughter safely by her side.

At this time, the location of the estranged husband is unclear. The police stated that they knew the 44-year-old man due to “previous domestic violence occurrences.” At this time, however, the police simply do not know where the assailant has fled.

Men from the fire department did an initial search of the remains of the burnt home, but were hampered by the heat radiating from the remains. Once the structure has cooled, there will be an in-depth search.
