Recalled lululemon back in stores
Lululemon has found a way to make lemonade out of lemons by refashioning the yoga pants it recalled for having fabric that was see-through sheer into patched up slacks it is marketing now in stores as “Second Chance Pants.” Although a pair of Lululemon yoga pants normally sells for $98, the revamped slacks have a price tag that is only six dollars cheaper. The “Second Chance Pant” features a reinforced back as well as mesh strips sewn up and down the legs. A tag accompanies the refashioned pants, indicating that the product is the company’s solution for still getting some mileage out of the too sheer pants it was forced to recall.
The company explains further, “We added mesh panels on the side and a luon fabric panel across the back to give you the coverage you need in Down Dog.”
The tag on the bottoms reads: “These pants were inspired by a need to find functional and beautiful design solutions for our sheer pants. This is what celebrating failure looks like!”
Almost 20 percent of the company’s fashion inventory was affected by the spring 2013 recall of yoga pants that revealed more than yoga practitioners meant to show when practicing positions like Downward Dog. Although Lululemon began marketing new pants called “Full-On Luon” featuring thicker opaque fabric this summer, customer reaction has been less than receptive, with many complaints that the fabric can still be seen through and that pilling is occurring after only a few wearings. There’s been no word if customers are snapping up the refashioned too sheer version.
