Skåne, Sweden – police are reporting a bizarre incident in this small southern Swedish town that derives its name from Old Norse words meaning “dangerous peninsula”. The term referrs to the water currents off the coast of the city which have been dangerous to shippers for centuries, but now oddly refer to the actions of a 42-year-old male.

The man had been working on a home improvement project with his girlfriend, but her nagging and nitpicking proved too much for him to bear. Fed up with the both her and the project, he took a blue gasoline can and doused part of the house with petrol including the woman and set both on fire.

“It was like something from a horror movie,” the female victim reportedly told investigators.

She survived by diving through a nearby window and fleeing to neighbors for help.

When police arrived they took the man into custody. He found it very hard to justify his actions, but that didn’t keep him from trying. He attributed his behavior to alcohol and excessive nagging. He has been sentenced to a prison term of eight years for attempted murder and a fine of $200,000 Swedish Kronor (crowns) which are worth roughly $31,500 Canadian dollars.

“It was like something from a horror movie,” the female victim reportedly told investigators.

“She complained about absolutely everything, how I painted, how I cleaned…Things got stressful,” he told investigators about the evening in July when the incident took place.

His ex-girlfriend is currently disabled due to the injuries she sustained in the attack.
