$10K T-Shirt Fine For Robert Griffin III
Washinton Redskins’ player Robert Griffin III was fined by the NFL on Thursday for wearing an unauthorized t-shirt. The fine was a whopping $10,000, but that is just chump-change for the player. Griffin responded to the fine on Friday following a charity auction at the Redskins’ Welcome Home Luncheon. He was named the alumni’s 2012 Offensive Player of the Year and got the crowd laughing when he said, “Those auctioneers did a good job. I would’ve given them 10 grand, but the NFL took it away from me this week.”
The T-shirt in question was a white shirt with the words “Operation Patience” adorning the front. It was a nickname that Griffin gave his recent knee surgery because the coaches were not allowing him to play as soon as he had wanted to. He was previously fined about $10,000 for wearing Adidas apparel and earlier this season he was warned not to cover up the Nike swoosh on his warm-up shirt. After the Adidas incident he was also made inactive for the entire game back in December 2012. He had been wearing an Adidas shirt and sweat jacket. The issue keeps arising because of the NFL’s sponsorship agreement with Nike.
