Sally Anne Okuly Killed After Walking For first time in 6 months
Sally Anne Okuly was both a survivor of cancer and in a terrible motorcycle crash. A native Virginian and mother of two, Okuly was an active individual with a giving heart. However, while she was able to overcome a devastating disease and a motorcycle collision, she was not able to survive a third traumatic event.
Last week was the first time in six months that Okuly was able to walk after the motorcycle accident. Okuly was on her way to a local convenience store to buy the paper and a cup of coffee when was struck by a car upon crossing the intersection. Reports have indicated that the vehicle was a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The driver, 24-year-old Amanda Styles-Mays, was charged with reckless driving and failure to yield to a pedestrian.
“One of her favorite things to do was to walk over across that street to the Wawa gas station,” said her husband, Bill Okuly, who still struggles with his emotions when he discusses his wife.
This tragedy took place only days before Okuly and her husband were scheduled to celebrate their 41st wedding anniversary. Upon hearing the devastating news regarding his wife’s death, Bill Okuly broke down into tears. Town residents of Woodbridge, Virginia showed their love and care for their deceased neighbor by erecting a memorial for Okuly, which states, “In loving memory of our friend and neighbor Sally Anne Okuly.”
“She’s the most giving person ever,” Bill Okuly said.
