Woman Tries to Cancel Brother’s Wedding by Posing as His Fiancée

Plymouth, England – A local woman by the name of Ann Duffy has given residents in this South Devon coastal town of 256,000 something to talk about. Duffy, age 50, was determined not to stand idly by as David Greatrex, her 52-year-old big brother, married a much younger woman by the name of Sandra Hardy, age 28.

Not content with waiting until the justice of the peace beckoned dissent with the phrase “speak now or forever hold your peace”, she decided to cancel the wedding by impersonating Hardy by phone to the marriage registry office. Following what she believed to be a successful interference with the marriage plan, she told her brother she had spared him an imminent divorce.

Without regard to her treachery, the couple was married. For her part, Duffy has been charged with harassment of Ms. Hardy, now Mrs. Greatrex. Duffy is taking responsibility for her actions and has plead guilty to the court, but remains defiant that she was correct about the doomed marriage. It may be that she’s correct about the long-term prospects of the marriage, but generally speaking, defiance doesn’t tend to invoke the mercy of the court. For now, the newlyweds are happy together and Hardy is hoping her new family take the chance to really get to know her.

Duffy took to Facebook to talk about the incident.

She wrote: “So before people want to judge me you need the facts. Good job my family and friends no (sic) the truth.”

“There is so much they don’t write try make me look bad. People quick to comment when you know nothing. Self opinionated you don’t know FACTS.”
