Super Bowl date change could be a first
Though the Super Bowl for 2014 has been scheduled for Sunday, February 2nd, the National Football League has set certain back up plans into place. These could have the game set for any time between Friday and Monday over the coming weekend. As most avid fans know, this is all due to weather conditions that are being predicted. It is said that an immense storm could be headed into the forecast which has prompted the NFL to make these decisions that are largely unprecedented.
Commissioner Roger Goodell said on Monday that the league is attempting to embrace the weather. “Football is played in the elements.” With the current forecast for Super Bowl Sunday predicting a high of mere 40 degrees and a 30 percent chance of either rain or snow, the elements are not looking ideal for the athletes. Kickoff in East Rutherford, New Jersey is set at 6:25 pm ET for now.
The NFL has stated that the game will only be rescheduled as a worst case scenario. Officials sincerely hope that the fans will flock to the first outdoor freezing temperature Super Bowl in the league’s history. All fans are said to receive certain comfort items meant to keep them warm while enjoying the game such as scarf, tissues, hand warmers, etc. These are hoped to ensure the safety of the fans.
