Thai “Miracle Working” Monk Defrocked & Busted For Graft

Defrocked and disgraced Thai monk Wiraphon Sukphon has been arrested by officers of the official Thai government office, AMLO (Anti Money Laundering Office). The former monk was disgraced and disbarred from his religious office for deceiving people to give him donations in exchange for supposed “miracles” that he rendered.

Government spokesman Seehanat Prayoonrat, secretary of the AMLO, told the press, “Monks can receive donations and must use them for the benefit of the public, not for private use and their own personal comforts.”

Wiraphon used the fictitious name Luang Pu Nen Kham. By taking this name, he aimed to portray himself to Buddhist believers and the media as the reincarnation of a famous miracle-performing cleric.

However, Wiraphon’s conduct was anything but holy. He went on a spree racking up assets that, according to an Australian news site, “included 12.8 million baht of real estate as well as three cars, a Harley-Davidson motorbike, a Vespa scooter and more than 200,000 baht in 14 bank accounts.”

Wiraphon is also suspected of soliciting sex from underage female minors, including a 14 year old girl who he allegedly fathered a child with. At present, Wiraphon is believed to have fled the country of Thailand
