Homeless Man Robs Bank to Get Access to Health Care

Portland, Oregon – local police arrested Timothy Alsip, a homeless man, inside the local Bank of America where he had robbed the bank for the sum of one dollar.

Bank Tellers are required to receive what is called “Teller Training” upon getting hired and one safety tactic they are taught is to always comply with a robber’s demand for money; it is done to avoid escalating a dangerous situation.

Upon receiving his dollar of ill-gotten gain, Alsip took a seat in the lobby and waited for the police to arrive and take him away. Police arriving on the scene charged him with single counts of second-degree robbery and third-degree theft. He was placed in county lock up with a bond set at $40,000. Despite the initial charges being dropped, Alsip remained in jail due to his inability to post bond.

Those who know him stated that he began to act erratically and believed he was suffering from various imaginary maladies. Police officers at the scene have stated that Alsip confessed to doing the crime in order to get free health care. It would have been a lot easier to go to the emergency room. Apparently, Alsip has not heard that jail health care is not known for its quality of treatment.
