The Turkish TV presenter Gözde Kansu has found what the limits are for modern dress: side boob. The very photogenic and elegant Kansu was the presenter for the reality TV show Veliaht (Turkish for “Heir to the Throne”). Kansu’s outfit was low cut with the top in a halter-top style which opened up in the center of her bosom revealing some side boob. Frankly, the dress was quite modest by comparison to Hollywood styles worn by Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Miley Cyrus.
However, the Justice and Development Party which dominates Turkish politics didn’t see it that way. Kansu’s outfit was deemed to be “extreme” and she has subsequently been dismissed from her position. It should be noted that neither Kansu nor her dress were specifically named in the “extreme” accusation by the ruling party. However, given that she had the most revealing outfit and was the only person dismissed, it is obvious she was the target of the socially conservative party.

In all fairness, the Justice and Development Party has distanced itself from the type of conservative Islamic politics which seek to impose strict views of Islam on the general public as is done in Saudi Arabia and Iran. Turkey has been vying for eight years to be admitted to the European Union.
