Tyler Perry’s Surprise Appearance at Fundraiser to Donate $100,000
Columbus, OH – actor & director Tyler Perry surprised students of Finland Middle School when he arrived at their local fundraiser to donate $100,000. Perry was touched by a segment that aired on the HBO program “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” which covered school teacher Mary Mulvany and her efforts to establish a foundation which uses scholarship donations to support sports programs at the school. After Perry heard that the school was going to host a fundraiser, he decided to show up in support.
The crowd of 700 parents and students was not expecting to see someone with the star power of Tyler Perry at the event. They were even more thrilled to see him hand over a check for $100,000. Perry said his donation will help support both the Finland Middle School sports program and Mulvany’s foundation. Mrs. Mulvany said that the Perry donation will be able to help hundreds of middle schoolers.
Perry is most notable known for his acting roles as the bellicose grandmother Madea. He has also directed a number of movies in a niche market that has broad appeal both in and out of the African-American community. Many of Perry’s films are shot in Atlanta, GA.
