Woman Given Ticket in South Windsor for Applying Makeup

A woman in Windsor was issued a ticket this past Saturday for applying makeup while driving. That same day the Ontario Provincial Policed had just issued a report that announced the single highest cause of death on Ontario roads was due to car owners being distracted while driving. According to the report the number of car crash deaths caused by distracted driving in 2013 far outnumbered the number of impaired fatalities as well as the number of speed related losses. The new Distracted Driving Campaign, created to raise awareness and announcing an increased penalty (a fine raised from $125 to $280) for distracted driving was launched on Saturday. (680news)

The woman had been moving at a slow speed down Howard Avenue, going under the E.C. Row Expressway when a police officer in a low profile police vehicle noticed the slowly moving car before deciding to approach it from and pulled her over. (CTVnews) When the curious officer drove up beside the vehicle, it was apparent that the woman was applying mascara with both hands being off the wheel to do so. The sunshade was pulled down so the mirror could be accessed, and the woman was seen leaning towards the mirror to apply make up with one hand while the other held the mascara canister. (OurWindsor) The lights beside the mirror were reportedly on as well, further limiting the driver’s vision as she examined herself in the mirror.

To further add to the incredulity of the office, a two year old child in a car seat was observed in the rear of the car where the driver was not only not paying attention to the road but also not touching the wheel of the vehicle. The woman was ticketed with a Provincial Offences Notice listed under the transgression for careless driving.
