Woman Gives Birth To Triplets in Saskatoon

Recently, Teri-Lynn Pocha of Saskatoon beat those odds. She became the first woman in Saskatoon to birth identical triplets in nearly 20 years. Aubrey, Madeline, and Sophie will join their older brother and sister soon enough.
Teri-Lynn and husband Andrew were only expecting one child in the begging. After attending their first ultrasound appointment, they received a surprise.
“It still has to sink in some more,” mother Teri-Lynn Pocha told CTV Saskatoon, speaking from the Royal University Hospital after the girls were delivered by caesarian on Monday afternoon. Each baby was born about a minute apart.
“They all look the same. I didn’t think they would right off the bat,” Pocha said. “The only way you can tell them apart is…if you kind of look at their size really closely.”
The doctor stated that a second, and possibly third, head was visible. Each baby was born a minute apart after a cesarean section. Fortunately, all three babies were born healthy albeit prematurely. The original due date was in mid-April.
Two other children are already part of the Pocha family. They’re aged six and eight respectively. Without a doubt, both older siblings are excited to meet their new sisters.
Soon-to-be busy dad Andrew did not expect 3 babies.
“We went into the appointment only expecting one baby in there and when she said there was two, possibly three heads, we kind of looked at each other and we were in shocked,” he told CTV Saskatoon.
Andrew and Teri-Lynn plan on differentiating the triplets by painting their toenails different colors. Identifying three identical babies isn’t exactly easy, especially when they’re the same size and lack noticeable birth marks.
If Teri-Lynn has kids in the future, it’s highly likely she won’t have triplets or even twins. Five children are enough for most couples, especially when they only expected three total from the start. In the end, triplets are rare enough, but identical triplets are nearly unheard of. These triplets will be the talk of Saskatoon for a little while, considering they haven’t had such an event in 20 years.
