Woman Gored by Stag During Freak Holiday Accident

A doctor from Cambridge vacationing in the Scottish Highlands over the holidays was gored by a stag in a freak accident that experts say was a one-in-a-million occurrence. 44-year old Kate Stone was enjoying a holiday with friends when a wild stag wandered into a garden at the bed & breakfast where she was staying. According to the B&B’s owner, the animal panicked after becoming trapped in the enclosure and charged her in an escape attempt.

Stone was immediately transported to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment, then was taken by air to Southern General Hospital in Glascow. Doctors there performed emergency surgery to repair a tear in her throat and have placed Dr. Stone in a medical coma in order to allow her wound to heal as quickly as possible.

A statement released by a colleague at Dr Stone’s print firm, Novalia, said she had an operation late on Tuesday to try to repair damage to her trachea.

It read: “The operation went well and she remained stable throughout. The doctors made a decision to keep her in an induced coma for the next week to minimise any movement that may rupture the wound.

“She remains in a stable condition and she is now in the healing process from the first operation.

“Her family are with her over this New Year period and all her friends are continuing to offer support.”

Her family and friends are providing her with emotional support and doctors say she is doing as well as can be expected and is listed in stable condition following the initial operation to repair her damaged throat muscles. There has been no report of anyone else being injured by a stag in the area and fellow holiday goers were horrified to hear of Dr. Stone’s bad luck.
