Yekaterina Pusepa Found Guilty of Attempted Murder of Boyfriend
Yesterday, Yekaterina Pusepa, age 23, was found guilty by a jury of her peers on the charges of first-degree assault and attempted murder, reports the Telegraph.

The attractive Latvian woman now faces up to 25 years in a New York State prison for stabbing her live-in boyfriend Alec Katsnelson. She’ll find out exactly how long she’ll be incarcerated when the trial reconvenes for the sentencing phase on January 9.

Her legal troubles began on May 22 of last year when she and her boyfriend went clubbing and she apparently drank too much. She needed to go to the restroom and asked her boyfriend to keep watch over her clutch, a female handbag noted for a lack of handles and its rectangular shape. When she returned from the ladies room, she found her clutch unattended at the bar. Upon finding her boyfriend outside, she demanded they return home.

Once at home, things got violent when he received a text message from another woman. Police claim she took a 9-inch steak knife and pushed it into Katsnelson’s chest collapsing a lung and slightly cutting his heart. During the trial, she claimed self-defense, but when police arrived on the scene she gave two different accounts. The first account was of a black man who stabbed her boyfriend and the other was of a suicidal boyfriend who thrust her knife-wielding hand into his chest. She claims the differing stories were the result of being nervous and in shock.

Defense lawyer Kevin O’Connell said Pusepa was trying to protect herself.

“I was just scared and in shock. I was just not in the right state of mind,” she said.
O’Connell told jurors that when his client knifed her abusive boyfriend, she was simply trying to “back him off.”

But Kermani insisted, “She was already boiling at that point, and he pushed her over the edge, and in that instant, she formed an intent to kill.”

Her attorney plans to file an appeal.
