Joliette, Quebec – It really shouldn’t have come to this for 22-year-old Guillaume Gélinas. He served in t Afghanistan for an 8-month tour of duty for the Canadian Armed Forces starting from 2010 to 2011.

A family photo shows the young soldier flanked by his father and his lovely step mother. However, he has been taken into custody by police and will be formally charged with first degree murder for the deaths of his father and step mother.

His father, Luc Gélinas, was found dead along with his partner, Julie Lemieux, in their home this past Thursday. They were repeatedly stabbed with a sharp object. They were age 54 and 35 respectively. The couple worked for Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) where they had been employed for years.

Their employer tweeted words of condolence to their families in a show of appreciation for their years of service to the company.

A statement from the SAQ said employees were in shock over the deaths and offered its condolences to the families and relatives and offered support to their colleagues.

“Luc Gélinas and Julie Lemieux, two longtime employees, were recognized for their enthusiasm, commitment and kindness,” the statement said. “They were appreciated by all.”

SAQ spokesperson Isabelle Merizzi said people who worked on a team with Luc Gélinas noticed that he wasn’t present for a meeting Thursday morning.

“He was very professional and for him to miss a meeting and not tell anyone was very out of character for Mr. Gélinas,”

Like many around Luc Gélinas, Guillaume wrote on the Facebook page of his father at noon Thursday to wish him a happy birthday. “Happy Birthday Dad, I tried calling you, but you do not answer in meeting as tjs I guess haha! Have a nice day! ”

Guillaume Gélinas will appear in court this coming Monday to be formally charged and enter his plea. The motive for the homicides is not known at this time.
