Singer Swift Brightens Cancer Patient’s Day

10-year old Lauren Hacker doesn’t have much to do but lie in bed as a cancer patient at Children’s Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

But her mood brightened considerably when she received a recent surprise visitor at her bedside, singer Taylor Swift. Swift, who is visiting the midwest to launch her latest worldwide tour to promote her newest album, “Red”, was approached by Hacker’s parents to give their ill daughter the thrill of a lifetime by making a personal visit to her hospital bed.

Hacker, who is a fifth-grade student at the local St. Margaret Mary School, received a big smile and a warm hug from her musical idol, who will perform later this week at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha as she begins her worldwide concert tour.

Lauren’s father wrote on the family’s blog: “Taylor Swift stopped by Lauren’s room at the hospital around 1 pm in the afternoon. She spent about an hour chatting with Lauren… (who) played a song on the electronic piano key board (sic) that she got for her birthday… Taylor was very impressed.”

Lauren’s family added: “Just before she had to leave, Taylor got out a bag of goodies for Lauren and provided autographs on notebooks, photographs and guitar picks… It was a great afternoon for everyone and I’m sure Lauren will remember it for many years to come.”

Hospital officials have not released what type of cancer the young student is suffering from, but Swift’s recent visit was a dose of good medicine.

Swift kicks off her worldwide tour Wednesday in Omaha for her latest album, “Red.”
