Autopsy Reveals Two Navy Divers Drowned Accidentally

Autopsy results of two Navy divers who died earlier this year while on training exercises at an Army installation facility in Hagerstown, MD, reveals that both divers accidentally drowned, reports the Washington Post.

Navy Divers James Reyher, a resident of Ohio, and Ryan Harris, who resided in Missouri, both in their 20s, were submerged in a facility known as the Super Pond used for doing underwater testing of weapons. A month prior to both Navy divers succumbing underwater in late February, a third individual, civilian George Lazzaro,Jr., also died while doing routine maintenance at the pond.

Since the deaths of all three individuals, the Super Pond has been closed to further training exercises pending an ongoing investigation. Military officials declined to provide any specific details about the autopsy findings done on the two Navy divers or the civilian engineer who lost his life at the end of January. Autopsies were performed on all three of the deceased by the Maryland medical examiner’s office. Autopsy results and a cause of death have not been announced for George Lazzaro, the only civilian in the group whose deaths occurred while working at the underwater weapons-testing facility. There has been no word from any of the families as to whether they are considering taking legal action against the military.
