20,000 leagues remake gets financial boost from Down Under
The 1954 classic film “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” will endure yet another remake. The film was remade twice in 1997 which included a version by the Hallmark Network as a made-for-TV film with a budget of $15 million, reports Boston.Com.
However, this time around the budget is going to be much bigger. What’s notable for this latest effort is that the production company will be the same one from the 1954 classic starring Kirk Douglas: Disney Studios.
Walt Disney Studios will be paying $22 million to have the film remade. It will be shot on location in Australia. While no one has been cast in the film yet, one prominent name has been announced: David Fincher will be the director.
The Australia born Fincher has racked up a string of highly successful films in the past such as “Alien 3”, “The Fight Club”, “The Panic Room”, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, and most recently the English version of the film “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”.
It’s rumored that Finch is looking to tap Brad Pitt in the role of film’s hero Ned Land – a role immortalized by Kirk Douglas. Fincher and Pitt worked together in the 1999 box office hit “The Fight Club”.
