22 students Sick After Milk Dare Game Goes Gross

Bad dare: School officials say lunchtime dares to drink a weird concoction that included hot sauce, carrots, salt and milk likely caused 22 students to get sick at a San Diego elementary school – if all of them were actually ill San Diego schools spokesman Jack Brandais says Friday that children at Audubon Elementary dared each other to drink from the mixture Thursday. Some reported upset stomachs and nausea afterward. Teachers then made a general announcement to see if other students had stomach problems. Brandais says that call brought out students “who may not have had problems at all.[/caption]strong>22 Students Get Sick Drinking Milk-Based Concoction as a Dare
As the adage goes, “youth is wasted on the young”. Twenty two children from Audubon Elementary in San Diego all took part in a dare. The drink challenge was to ingest a mixture of milk, salt, carrots, and hot sauce.
The dare took place during the lunch hour this past Thursday. Not long after some of gullible students literally “took the kool-aide”, they began complaining of stomach pain and nausea.
That prompted teachers to issue a call word of caution over the PA system and asked anyone with stomach discomfort to come forward. As soon as that message was issued, other students came in complaining of stomach pain.
“A group of kids, on a dare, said, ‘How many things can you put in your milk and keep it down?’ So in went the salt, pepper, hot sauce, carrots and whatever they could find,” Jack Brandais, spokesman for the San Diego Unified School District, said Friday.
“When the first kids got sick, teachers asked if anybody else felt sick, and the hands started going up,” Brandais said. “Some of them were apparently having … sympathy pains.”
It isn’t known if all 22 students drank the concoction or if the school was simply witnessing the power of suggestion. As a precaution, eighteen of the students were taken to the hospital where they were examined and released.
Also, the school took the steps to disinfect the lunchroom, kitchen, and other eating areas. The school principal admits that not everyone who stepped forward drank the concoction or was even ill. However, when it comes to children it is often best to be safe than sorry.
The school took the appropriate steps to ensure the matter was nothing more than youthful folly.
